Months following a poll where the majority of users voted for him to step down as the company’s head, Twitter owner Elon Musk has said he has found his CEO replacement.
Musk Announces That He Has Found a Replacement
As with many of his important announcements, Musk shared the news on Twitter. However, he did not name who his replacement would be.
In the Twitter post, Musk said that he has hired a new CEO for Twitter and X Corp who will start in six weeks.
Meanwhile, he will transition to the role of Executive Chair and Chief Technical Officer (CTO). His responsibilities will include overseeing product, software, and system operations.
While Musk didn’t name his replacement, signs point to it being NBCUniversal advertising and partnerships chairperson Linda Yaccarino. Puck News journalist Dylan Byers said that two unnamed sources familiar with the situation pointed to Yaccarino as the new CEO.
While Musk did not confirm Yaccarino’s appointment, he did respond to a tweet from a user that implied Yaccarino would implement shadowbans as CEO. Musk denied that this would be the case, while not denying that she was the newly hired CEO.
The appointment of a new CEO comes after the Dec 2022 poll where Musk asked Twitter users whether he should step down. When 57.5% of users voted yes, he said he will resign as CEO as soon as he found “someone foolish enough to take on the job”.
Musk bought Twitter in 2022. While some users have welcomed his tenure as head of the company, others have lamented changes Musk has made to Twitter. This includes the boosting of Twitter Blue subscriber replies and a wide-ranging amnesty for previously banned accounts.
A New Head of Twitter Is Incoming
Whether things will change at Twitter when Elon Musk steps back from his role as CEO remains to be seen. All signs point to him continuing to be very involved in the platform.
