The Pixel 6 series will reportedly also ship with faster charging speeds.
There have been some rumors of Google launching a foldable Pixel phone dubbed the Google Pixel Fold alongside the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro this year.
With Samsung going all out with its foldable phones this year, it does seem like the right time for Google to unveil its foldable Pixel as well. However, a new report suggests that Google has delayed the launch of the Pixel Fold.
Google Could Preview the Pixel Fold Later This Year
The exact reason behind Google delaying the launch of the Google Pixel later this year is not clear. There’s no clarity on when the company now intends to launch the foldable Pixel.
The 91Mobiles report does suggest that Google could preview the Pixel Fold at its Pixel 6 launch event. It could be that Google’s foldable device is not ready for a consumer release, which is why the company is considering delaying its launch. By previewing the Pixel Fold, Google will still be able to catch the attention of the media and Pixel fans and get them talking about its foldable phone.
The Google Pixel 6 Could Support Faster Charging Speeds
The report sheds some light on the charging speeds of the upcoming Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro as well. So far, all Google Pixel devices have shipped with 18W fast charging support, which pales in comparison to offerings from Xiaomi, Realme, Huawei, and OnePlus that offer 65W or faster charging speeds on their devices.
Google is possibly looking to fix this issue to a certain extent by bumping the charging speeds on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro to 33W. While not the fastest, 33W charging support on the upcoming Pixels should still be a welcome change. This should be good enough to charge the batteries on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro to about 50 percent in 30 minutes, with a full charge likely taking around an hour.
Google has confirmed that it will stop shipping chargers in the box of future Pixel devices, so you might have to invest in a 33W charger separately if you intend to enjoy the fast charging speeds on the Pixel 6 or 6 Pro.
Google previewed the design of the Pixel 6 series in early August and confirmed they would ship with its own custom Tensor chip. The Pixel 6 Pro will feature a 6.7-inch QHD+ 120Hz curved AMOLED display and a triple-camera system, including a 4x optical zoom sensor. The smaller Pixel 6 will ship with a 6.4-inch FHD+ 90Hz display and a dual-camera system.
